At the Turn of the Millennium: A Geopolitical “Explosion” and Russia’s Geopolitical Revival
The article analyzes the process of geopolitical transformation of contemporary world-system that began in the last decades of the 20th century – just after the defeat of the Soviet Union in the “cold war” that became a geopolitical “explosion”, geopolitical revolution, “geopolitical catastrophe”, as Vladimir Putin put it, which led to the termination of the existence of a bipolar geopolitical model, for many decades a highly reliable fastening system of international relations. As the legal successor of the USSR and one of the former geopolitical poles, Russia abruptly lost its status as a superpower for several decades. However, according to the author of the article, in recent years there has been a return of Russia to its former state of geopolitical status.
