Political and Legal Aspects of Providing Media Literacy in Modern Russia

Certain premises of the federal laws of the Russian Federation (i.e. «About Mass Media», «About Information, Information Technologies, and Protection of Information», «About Providing Access to Information Concerning State and Municipal Bodies’ Activity») conducive to the media literacy formation are considered in this article. Political dimension of media literacy is substantiated.

The Myth of «Communication» in Modern Political Processes

The publication analyzes the causes and the logic of transition, which is observed in the mass consciousness of society and elites, from the ideas of «communication» of political subjects, as a means of solving their specific political problems, to the idea of it as the final practical result of modern politics. Effects of that transition for the dynamics of political processes at various levels are predicted.

The Evolution of the Russian Multi-party System after Election-2016

The author considers participation of the Russian political parties of the «second echelon» in election within the single voting day September 18, 2016, and the level of their activity during election of the heads of the subunits of the Russian Federation, as well as members of regional legislative (representative) bodies. Based on data from the Central Electoral Commission, the groups of the most active in the Russian regions political parties are distinguished, possible changes in configuration of the «heart» of the party system during the next electoral cycle are foreseen.

Information Suppression of Electoral Activity

The author considers two main interpretations of the information’s role in electoral procedures’ fulfilment in contemporary Russia and substantiates his own point of view that a great deal of competing electoral subjects’ information influence on voters forms a feeling of predetermined outcome of the elections and significantly decreases citizens’ motivation to take part in voting.

The Issue of Freedom and Equality Correlation in the Political Theory of A. de Tocqueville

The scientific tradition of A. de Tocqueville has been the subject matter of many studies. However, many Tocquevillian ideas have been misrepresented. This article tries to make some corrections over the essential part of Tocqueville’s democratic theory, which refers, in particular, to the issue of freedom and equality correlation. That goal is expected to be reached in context of defining and partially redefining the political-ideological portrait of de Tocqueville and, thus, through revealing some reservations in that regard.

20 Years of the First Political Science Enrollment at Saratov State University

Longstanding experience of teaching fully trained political science students at Saratov State University is analyzed in the article. Key achievements of pedagogical and scholarly work of the Political Science Department are characterized.
